SUMMARY:Global Multistakeholder High Level Conference on Governance for Web 4.0 and Virtual Worlds
DESCRIPTION:The European Commission and the 2025 Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU are organising a conference on governance for web 4.0 and virtual worlds. \n\n\n\nWeb 4.0 and Virtual Worlds are the next technological frontiers. They will fundamentally affect the internet as we know it today and will require a forward-looking approach to governance that is both adaptive\, future-proof and not dominated by a single stakeholder group. \n\n\n\nThe 2025 Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission are organising the first Global Multistakeholder High Level Conference on Governance for Web 4.0 and Virtual Worlds to initiate a global discussion on this topic. \n\n\n\nThe goal of this conference is to define foundational principles for a global governance framework for Web 4.0 and Virtual Worlds that addresses the dynamics of digital spaces\, ensuring their governance is transparent\, inclusive\, and accountable. \n\n\n\nThe event will take place on the 31st of March and 1st of April 2025 at the Charlemagne building in Brussels. \n\n\n\nThe conference will bring together academics\, policymakers\, technologists\, and community leaders. Together\, they will propose solutions for the governance of virtual worlds\, opening collaboration and knowledge-sharing  between participants from different sectors. \n\n\n\nIt will focus in particular on policy dialogues for an ethical\, value-driven shift to Web 4.0. as well as standardisation issues related to virtual worlds (including internet standards) and its technical management. It will also cover the need to align our approach with the multi-stakeholder model of internet governance.

SUMMARY:FOSDEM 2025 EU-Policy Devroom
DESCRIPTION:As part of FOSDEM 2025\, which will take place on the 1st and 2nd of February 2025\, there will be a devroom on Open Source In The European Legislative Landscape and Beyond. The devroom will take place on Sunday 2nd February 2025 for the full day. \n\n\n\nThe devroom will continue the tradition started at FOSDEM 2024\, bringing together developers and EU lawmakers from the European institutions to discuss the impact of past\, ongoing\, and upcoming EU laws affecting the Open Source community. Once again the plan is to run this in a non-traditional way\, as a series of collaborations or workshops featuring a scene-setting presentation\, short talks from developers to set context\, engagement from institutional representatives and then audience participation. Accepted talks will be deployed in this framework\, and not as a free-standing session. The organisation will acknowledge as complementary the DevRooms with overlapping topics and hope to find ways to collaborate! \n\n\n\nFor those interested\, please submit your proposals for talks by 1st December 2024 at 11:59 CET at the latest. Please note that this deadline is managed by the FOSDEM team.

SUMMARY:CHAOSScon Europe 2025
DESCRIPTION:Learn about open source project health metrics and tools used by open source projects\, communities\, and engineering teams to track and analyze their community work. This conference will provide a venue for discussing open source project health\, CHAOSS updates\, use cases\, and hands-on workshops for developers\, community managers\, project managers\, and anyone interested in measuring open source project health. We will also share insights from the CHAOSS context working groups including OSPOs\, University Open Source\, and Open Source in Science and Research. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCHAOSS is a Linux Foundation project focused on creating metrics\, metrics models\, and software to better understand open source community health on a global scale. \n\n\n\nOpen source software is critically important for both individuals and organizations. This importance raises questions about how we understand the health of the open-source projects we rely on. Unhealthy projects can have negative impacts on the community involved in the project as well as organizations that rely on such projects. CHAOSS is an acronym for Community Health Analytics in Open Source Software. CHAOSS helps people who want to know more about the health of the open-source projects they are engaged with. \n\n\n\n\nOpen source contributors want to know where they should place their efforts and know they are making an impact.\n\n\n\nOpen source communities want to attract new members\, ensure consistent quality\, and reward valuable members.\n\n\n\nOpen source companies want to know which communities to engage with\, communicate the impact the organization has on the community\, and evaluate the work of their employees within open source.\n\n\n\nOpen source foundations want to identify and respond to community needs\, evaluate the impact of their work\, and promote communities.

SUMMARY:ECP Annual Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:In recent decades\, society has become increasingly digital\, creating new opportunities and possibilities but also challenges: digitalisation is changing our lives\, and we are changing digitalisation. \n\n\n\nThere is a continuous interaction between how people and society respond to new technological possibilities and the demands\, questions and wishes that people and society place on technology. Choices must be made with regard to what is and is not desirable in a digital society. \n\n\n\nSome choices lie with the individual\, some at the organizational level and some at the national and European level. And with companies\, governments and social institutions. Digitalization is everywhere and requires action everywhere. Digital\, that’s us.

SUMMARY:OpenForum Academy Symposium 2024
DESCRIPTION:Open Source in the Global Digital Economy\n\n\n\nThe OFA Symposium is the only academic conference covering questions relating to the social\, political and economic impact of Open Source. The Symposium enables the linking of research agendas\, growth of the research community\, and the understanding of the societal value of Open Source. \n\n\n\nThe 2023 edition of the OFA Symposium at TU Berlin set the OFA’s agenda for Open Source research for the coming years. The 2024 edition is hosted by the Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard to evolve the concept even further and raise the ambition level of the quality and impact of academic open source research. \n\n\n\nThe OFA Symposium will bring together an interdisciplinary set of researchers\, practitioners\, and policymakers from around the world to Harvard Business School\, Boston\, in order to explore the transformative power of Open Source software and hardware. \n\n\n\nUnder the theme Open Source in the Global Digital Economy the OFA Symposium will focus on the social\, political\, and economic implications of open source. We will examine how open source is changing the way we work\, communicate\, and interact with each other\, and how it is shaping the future of technology and society.
